5/17/2024 Thank you sir. I needed this.
@peakdavid I have been struggling to write a literature review for my research proposal and couldn't just wrap my head around it. But watching this video made the process very clear and directional for me. Thank you very much, I am so grateful.

Hi Sir, I am eagarly waiting for Precis Writing videos in detail.
Do you mean how to write a precis?
@@peakdavid Yes!
I don't have a video on writing a precis. The only difference between a precis and summary is that in a précis you use the language and structure of the original, particularly key terms and phrases. A precis is a condensation (distillation) of the original using the originals wording.
@@peakdavid Thank you Professor, I am looking for to your new videos on Precis writing.
❤❤❤❤
this was very short and simple tysm (btw the audio is great)
Thank you. 😊
Thank you❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you. Teacher didn't go over this format. Was very lost. Saved me a lot of stress. Now just have to write the rest
Good luck!
I was worried for a second as the article had no author name, thank you so much! 😭
You got it!
Peace/blessings! Hi Dave! I started watching your video on formatting in 2012. I memorized it . Taught in China using it. Now after a 3 year break I'm working on my teaching certification and forgot how to format. Immediately I went to youtube looking for YOU! Thanks BROTHER...
Great story! So glad it helped!
Thank you David. It's amazing!
Welcome!
Thank you very much. It was very helpful.
So glad it helped!
Thank you, Professor, for sharing this insight. In my view, the utilization of tools such as ChatGPT and Grammarly does not constitute cheating, provided that the original sources are accurately attributed. As a non-native speaker, I find that these tools significantly enhance productivity and reduce costs associated with academic writing, particularly in proofreading and generating content ideas. Furthermore, these advancements obviate the need for engaging costly services of proofreaders and ghostwriters. Ultimately, it is imperative to meticulously review all outputs generated by artificial intelligence and ensure they are corroborated by valid sources.
Thanks for weighing in! Grammarly traveled the same journey on the way to full acceptance. It's always been the same story with innovations in writing technology.
Thanks man!
Welcome!
This video has helped me alot. Thank you.
Welcome!
Very helpful,thank you sir!
Welcome!
Thank You, It was infuriating to put page number. Also i put the Section break at the end of Front Page so i don't have to click different at front page and custom number
Good trick!
Your presentation with examples is very clear. Thank you so much 🤝
Thank you for the tip on search and research🤝
Thanks for this video, you have solved my year-long problem.
Welcome!
The downside is that the system has a 2-year delay, so any information developed will not be current. The system has not been updated since Jan 2022
For recent information on updates, check OpenAI's official announcements or website: chatgpt.com/share/a48802cc-aae7-44cf-bedb-1532e7e2d97c?oai-dm=1 The latest update was April 2023. The statement "any information developed will not be current" is true primarly for global news events after the lastest update.
@@peakdavid I ran a test and query testing the system and went back and forth talking a range of topics, especially scholarly and the system kept coming back with the time-frame.... That's correct. As an AI developed by OpenAI, I don't have access to real-time information or updates. My training data goes up until January 2022, so any events or developments that occurred after that time are unknown to me...... he citation patterns and conventions I've learned include a wide range of sources up to January 2022. These patterns are based on the data available to me during my training, which includes various publications, articles, and other texts from before that time. While I can't access new information or updates beyond my training data, I can generate citations based on the patterns learned from the existing data.
How do you set up AI or were do you download .
This video demonstrates ChatGPT from Open Ai. Just Google "AI Chatbots" and you'll find dozens.
I have used it for brainstorming in a whole different way. For instance, if I have an idea how I want to answer a question, I will put in the question with my answer and ask if I have fully answered the question. It will tell me what I answered well, and how I might expand it. When the topic is something I am passionate about, I might put my work in and ask if I sound too angry/offensive/ignorant, or whatever other negative slant that I am trying to avoid. Sometimes it might give me a better way to word something, but it’s always my own ideas. When I have had a hard time finding references on a topic, I have asked ChatGPT for some suggested resources, but more often than not, it gives me imaginary resources. Years ago, I read a book called “There are no Children Here” by Alex Kotlowicz. It is a true story. I asked Chat GPT what became of the two boys and it lied to me. Complete and utter lies. With that said, it’s great for brainstorming, checking wording or tone, but you should NEVER rely on the info you get. You need to verify all of it.
I teach English composition classes in Haiti and see the use of an AI writing assistant as cheating. If an ESL student uses a ChatBot for writing assignments, how will she/he/they/ever learn to write?
You seem to be in an either/or situation: Either the use of ChatGPT is cheating or it isn't. However, teachers today need to be aware of the many ways assignments can be constructed so as to prevent or minimize the unethical use of ChatGPT, because denying students any use of AI tools is not the answer. We must adapt to them, not the other way around. Here's a good article on how to design assignments that prevent ChatGPT cheating. ruclips.net/video/-c4dffhqJHc/видео.htmlsi=W8k5YL0YmpRGRo9X I often ask students to record themselves with an app like FlipGrid to present their assignments, to do revisions that reflect my specific feedback, and so on. In the meantime, there are lots of ethical uses of ChatGPT that teachers can employ. Hey, sounds like a good idea for my next video!
@@peakdavid Shortly after this note from you, I received an essay from a student with complex sentence structure, advanced vocabulary, and perfect punctuation. I gave the student a ZERO for using AI. Here is one sentence he wrote in his defense, "Mr Trout, I know very well if i use chat, you will give me zero and I will lost the semester" For my Haitian English composition students, AI has nothing positive to add. BTW, I often use your RUclips videos in my class.
Now that the student has found AI chatbots, seems like the door is open for instruction on how to use them ethically.
Thank you, David, for this information. If I am using numbered citations, what should I do at this point?
Using numbered or parenthetical citations does not affect the format of the citation, which is what this video addreses. Good luck!
Hi, is this for assignments aswell even for citing essays? As did with my last assignment but i wasnt haapy with the grade.
Hi, yasmin. The video provides a strategy for reading articles. For information on citing articles, try one of my other videos on that topic.
@@peakdavid Hi, okay. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant, is this acceptable for assignments like essays, annotated bibliographies, etc.?
I think this method is mainly useful with longer pieces of prose that contain the sections described. Good luck
THANK YOU, Thank you, thank you. I agree with the comment below, lecturers get paid and yet you on RUclips have enlightened me in such a profound way. I have liked, commented and subscribed to show my appreciation in a small way. I no linger have a blank page.
NeNe--thanks so much for your thoughtful words. I'm so glad the video helped!
